Reading Fiction | Importance of Reading Fiction

Whenever asked about a favorite read, people end up choosing one or the other fictional reads. The charm that Harry Porter holds in readers is insurmountable. Fiction is nothing but the literature created from the imagination, though it may be based on a true story or situation. (1) We have spent nearly half of our lives dwelling into the fictional world of fairytales to the tragi-comic world of Shakespeare.

  • Reading fiction not only develops our imagination and creativity but also makes us empathetic towards people’s situations, making us more sensitive towards other’s pain. That’s because when we read about a situation or feeling, it’s very nearly as if we’re feeling it ourselves. (2) 
  •  Also, it is discovered that reading fiction is the most effective way to overcome stress, surpassing all other methods like music or a leisure walk. 
  • Fiction engages the imagination in readers, thus inducing deep sleep patterns for them.
  • Also, it is beneficial in enhancing interpersonal skills among people as it helps explore ideas of change, complex emotions and the unknown. 
  • Fiction books help the reader build rich vocabulary and moreover connect with the world through a better language.
